Verstappen’s win marks his second victory of the season and vaults him to second place in the championship standings, just one point behind leader Lando Norris, who now sits on 62 points. Piastri remains in the hunt with 49 points, followed by Mercedes’ George Russell with 45 points. Rounding out the top five is rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who continues to impress in his debut season with 30 points.
The Japanese Grand Prix showcased a thrilling battle at the front, with all three podium finishers trading fastest sectors through the opening laps. McLaren’s pace was evident, but Verstappen’s composure and strategic execution proved decisive as he managed tire wear and timing with precision in the latter stages.
